Maine Music Awards Entertainment Hall of Fame Upcoming Inductee 2024: Bobby Russell

Bobby Russell grew up in Eddington Maine and attended Brewer High School and the Connecticut School of Broadcasting.  
His radio career began in 1975 at WJSR in Madawaska Maine. He was hired in 1978 at WLBZ by John Marshall to begin his career at 861 Broadway in Bangor.  During the next ten years as WLBZ became the Zone Corporation after being purchased by Stephen and Tabitha King, Russell advanced from a part-time announcer to hosting the morning show with his partner, Tim Cotton.  


Russell spent two years at WSTW in Wilmington Delaware as morning show host and returned to Bangor in 1989 to become program director and morning show host at WKIT.  In addition to his on-air responsibilities, Russell rose to manage the Zone corporation’s three radio stations WZON, WZLO, and WKIT from 1998 to 2020. In 2014, Radio Ink magazine named Bobby Russell one of the best programmers in radio.

Russell stepped down from management to spend his spend his last year broadcasting from his home studio. He retired in 2021.
